English Language Arts Skills Recovery I
English Language Arts - Skills Recovery I course is a flexible online course designed for grade 9 and 10 students who would benefit from remediation of general skills or strengthen skills in specific areas.
The course includes engaging and interactive instruction about reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language, with a focus on exploring a variety of genres and their elements.
Students learn how to carefully read, interpret, and analyze literature and nonfiction works of cultural or historical significance appropriate to grades 9-10.
Examples of works studied include “Harrison Bergeron,” poems by Sara Teasdale and Stephen Crane, F.D. Roosevelt’s “Four Freedoms” speech, and the memoir Night. Students also learn about the formal writing process as they write various genres of essays.
