5th Grade English Language Arts provides a comprehensive approach to literacy, connecting reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling into one integrated program. Dedicated time for keyboarding and cursive practice is also included.

The course is organized into 12 units. Each unit features workshops that focus on a major area of study—reading, writing, or word study—to reinforce key literacy concepts.

In reading workshops, students explore a wide range of genres and formats, including fiction, poetry, drama, nonfiction, magazines, and graphic novels. They read independently and engage in activities designed to deepen comprehension and critical thinking.

In writing workshops, students analyze model texts and use the writing process to create original compositions. Grammar, usage, and mechanics are taught in context, helping students apply these skills as they revise and proofread their work.

Word study workshops help students expand their vocabulary by learning groups of conceptually related words and strengthen their understanding of spelling patterns that support fluent, confident reading, writing, and spelling.

Our customized learning approach crafts a strong foundation of essential skills for elementary school students in grades K–5, nurturing a love of learning and confidence in their capabilities.
