English Language Arts K
Kindergarten English Language Arts includes two courses—ELA K and Phonics K—that together provide a comprehensive approach to early literacy. Students engage in structured lessons that emphasize reading readiness, phonics, language development, literature, writing, and handwriting through a blend of teacher-led instruction (live or via embedded video) and independent practice, both online and offline. The program builds a strong foundation in comprehension and vocabulary to spark a lifelong love of reading and learning.
Phonics K helps students become confident, independent readers through systematic, multisensory instruction designed to be developmentally appropriate. Students review letter names, practice phonological awareness, and learn decoding skills and sight words. Multimodal learning is supported through letter tiles, interactive games, engaging activities, and decodable readers—short stories composed entirely of words students can read independently.
Read-aloud instruction using a variety of texts nurtures imagination, builds background knowledge, and develops listening comprehension and vocabulary skills. Text selections include classic literature, contemporary stories, and engaging nonfiction presented through trade books, magazines, e-books, poems, and nursery rhymes.
Students begin exploring the writing process in My Writing Journal K, where they brainstorm, discuss, illustrate, and share ideas—laying the foundation for early writing. Targeted handwriting activities provide gentle, structured guidance to help students form letters correctly.
Together, ELA K and Phonics K integrate reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and handwriting to help students build the strong foundational skills essential for future literacy success.
