English Language Arts 3
3rd Grade English Language Arts provides a comprehensive approach to literacy, connecting reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling into one integrated program. Dedicated time for keyboarding and cursive practice is also included.
The course is organized into 14 units, including 2 assessment units. Each unit features workshops that focus on a major area of study—reading, writing, or word study—to reinforce key literacy concepts.
In reading workshops, students explore classic and contemporary works across multiple genres and formats, including fiction, poetry, drama, nonfiction, and magazines. They read independently and engage in a variety of activities to deepen comprehension and critical thinking.
In writing workshops, students study model texts and use the writing process to create a range of compositions. Grammar, usage, and mechanics are taught in context, helping students apply these skills as they revise and proofread their work.
Word study workshops help students expand their vocabulary by learning groups of conceptually related words and develop a stronger understanding of spelling patterns that support fluent, confident reading, writing, and spelling.
