8th Grade U.S. History Before 1900
8th Grade U.S. History Before 1900 focuses on major historical events and figures from colonization through the Reconstruction period. Students study key topics such as Colonial America, the Revolutionary War, the drafting of the Constitution, westward growth of the United States, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
Throughout the course, students practice critical analysis skills by reading primary sources and examining historical accounts from a variety of perspectives. They also expand their understanding of the world around them by exploring how geography has influenced American history.
By connecting historical topics to related current events, students see how the past continues to shape life today. Students reflect on changes and continuities across time periods and demonstrate their learning through a combination of projects, discussions, tests, and independent work.
