Spanish I
Spanish I emphasizes the four key areas of language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course blends effective language-learning methods with an engaging online format.
Each unit introduces a vocabulary theme and grammar concept, along with reading and listening comprehension exercises, speaking and writing activities, multimedia cultural presentations, and interactive practices to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. Context and conversational examples are emphasized throughout.
Students actively participate in their language learning, become familiar with common vocabulary and phrases, understand a variety of grammar patterns, engage in simple conversations, respond to basic conversational prompts, compare cultural practices across Spanish-speaking countries, and take frequent assessments to track their progress.
The course is aligned with national standards from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Topics include greetings, school, the alphabet, adjectives, colors, countries, numbers, telling time, -ir, -er, and -ar verbs, days, months, seasons, hobbies and pastimes, food, family, places, animals, shopping, and weather.
