Modern World Studies - Honors
Modern World Studies – Honors is an advanced course in which students study world history from about 1870 to the present.
The course begins with an examination of events leading up to 1914, including the Second Industrial Revolution and the growth of imperialism. Students then move into the modern era, studying World War I, World War II, the Great Depression, and global tensions during the Cold War.
Students take an in-depth look at both the challenges and achievements of the twentieth century, with an emphasis on political and social history.
The course also includes advanced study of physical and human geography and an exploration of current global issues. Activities include analyzing primary sources and maps, creating timelines, completing projects and written assignments, and conducting research. Students complete independent honors projects each semester.
