High School Chinese I
Chinese I - High School introduces students to the language by focusing on the four foundational skills of world language learning: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
This course blends effective language-learning practices with engaging online instruction. Each unit introduces new vocabulary and grammar concepts and includes reading and listening activities, speaking and writing practice, multimedia cultural presentations, and interactive exercises that reinforce vocabulary and grammar.
Lessons emphasize real-world context and simple conversational examples to help students understand how the language is used. Both Chinese characters and pinyin are taught together, and dedicated character-writing practice begins after the first quarter.
Students actively build common vocabulary, understand essential grammar patterns, participate in basic conversations, and respond to everyday prompts. They also explore cultural practices and perspectives across Chinese-speaking regions and complete regular assessments to monitor their progress.
