Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry
Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry weaves together concepts from algebra and geometry to prepare students for the study of calculus.
The course focuses on mastering essential skills while introducing new concepts needed for success in higher-level math. During the first semester, students study quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, radical, polynomial, and rational functions, as well as matrices and conic sections.
The second semester introduces infinite series, trigonometric ratios, functions, and equations, along with inverse trigonometric functions and real-world applications of trigonometry. Additional topics include vectors, polar equations, polar form of complex numbers, arithmetic of complex numbers, and parametric equations.
Throughout the course, students make connections to calculus and to a variety of other math-related fields.
Special emphasis is placed on how mathematical concepts relate to one another. Highlighting the connections between algebraic and geometric ideas reinforces the integrated nature of mathematics.
