4th Grade Fitness and Health
4th Grade Fitness and Health helps students engage in physical activity while developing the knowledge and skills needed to explore what it means to live a healthy life.
Students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and the importance of physical fitness. Each day, students participate in 30 minutes of physical activity, practicing new fitness skills weekly to improve flexibility, coordination, strength, and aerobic endurance.
Students apply fitness skills through a variety of games and sports, including basketball, dance, soccer, and volleyball. In health lessons, they explore physical, mental, and social health.
Topics include wellness, safety, nutrition, disease prevention, emergency response, and the dangers of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, including strategies for refusing harmful substances. Students also learn about the importance of relationships and communication, as well as dealing with grief, avoiding gangs, addressing bullying, and staying safe outdoors and online.
Students prepare for and take a fitness test that includes sit-and-reach, push-ups, sit-ups, and a mile run. They use a Fitness and Health Notebook to reflect on learning and apply their skills and knowledge.
